How do I register to vote?

It is easy to register to vote:

  • Go to the electoral registration website

  • Fill in your name, address, date of birth and a few other details. You'll also need your national insurance number, which can be found on your national insurance card, or in official paperwork such as payslips, or letters about benefits or tax credits

  • Look out for a confirmation to say you are registered.

There is more information on the Your Vote Matters website  .

If you are unable to register online, contact your local council. The details are below.

Do I have to register for every election?

Once you are on the register, your local council will check your details with you every year to see if they are correct.

If you are registered and your details haven't changed then you do not need to register again.

If you move house you will have to register again. If you have just turned 18 you will need to register to vote.
